Why We Love Puerto Galera

By March 8, 2016 27 Comments

Puerto Galera easily takes its spot as one of our favorite destinations, because it’s the third place that we’ve visited more than once, next to Baguio and Tagaytay.

Before February ended, Gerald and I spontaneously went to a quick weekend getaway, as a way to release stress. Or maybe we’re just too excited for summer?

Aside from the fact that we miss the beach, we have three more reasons why we chose Puerto Galera as our destination for this quick getaway.

Puerto Galera is very near the metro

boat to puerto galera

With an approximate travel time of three (3) hours from Makati, Puerto Galera is one of the best places for a quick getaway. No need to stress myself looking for airline promo fares just to experience beach! Imagine, for a short amount of time, you’re already off to a beach getaway! πŸ™‚

And since it’s near the metro, there’s no need to take more days just to enjoy. This is our second trip to Puerto Galera and just like the first one, it’s a 2D/1N weekend trip only. It was short, yes, but just enough to take a break from city stress.

A quick getaway to Puerto Galera is within our low budget

For every trip, we always consider three things:

  • Fare
Since it is near the city, we don’t need to book for a flight that cost thousands. Roundtrip fare for bus going to Batangas and boat going to the island would only cost around Php 1300.
  • Accommodation
Air-conditioned rooms good for 4 pax cost around Php 1500/night and there are even lower than that. You can find cheap and affordable hotels here.
  • Food and Activities
There are local guides that offer tour packages and you can also ask your hotel. I have only tried parasailing, forΒ onlyΒ Php 1000/pax. For the food, there are a lot of restaurants around, and most, if not all, offer unlimited rice. Yay! We were able to enjoy meals for less than Php 500 for 2 pax. Hotels also offer free breakfast so that’s one less meal to spend on.

Our budget never exceeded Php 3,000/pax when we went to Puerto Galera. That’s not bad, right? But of course, it will always differ per person. Yours could be cheaper or more expensive.

Locals in Puerto Galera are friendly and accommodating

I remember the first time we went here, everything went very smooth despite it being on a “peak season” that is Labor Day, because the locals helped and guided us. Gerald was surprised how everyone’s accommodating. On our second visit, we concluded that the locals are really just friendly.

Employees in our hotel are very friendly, they always smile at us and gladly assist us with our needs. Tour guides would offer you packages, but they won’t bug you until you avail one. Politely say no to them, and they’ll immediately walk away. Kids who sell things can be quite annoying, but come on, they’re kids and they’re supposed to be annoying, right? Haha.

There’s also one kid who talked to me, telling me he’s going to get me a crab or something. He’s digging and trying to find for it, but no luck. Hehe.

Also, the dogs we found are playful too! I wasn’t able to take a photo of the other dog who’s playing with some foreigners. This dog that we also found seems to like chilling by the beach too. πŸ™‚

For me, Puerto Galera is so far the best place for a quick weekend getaway. It only takes a few hours to hit the beach, budget-friendly and locals are accommodating.

It was gloomy the day we went to Puerto Galera but that didn’t stop us! And it’s not just us, because there are still people who stayed in the beach despite the rain.

On the next day, the weather was better, but we only have a few hours left until we go back to the city. It was sad, but I’m sure we can always go back to Puerto Galera. πŸ™‚

It’s your turn!

  • What are your favorite local destinations?
  • Have you been to Puerto Galera? Do you love it there too?
  • Is travelling also your way to take a break and release stress?

I started blogging 12 years ago, jumping from one domain to another, and just last year I ventured into vlogging as well. Whenever I need a break, you'll find me watching a Kdrama episode, or simply just having a good sleep.

Huhuhu! I think Jorge and I will retire by the beach. After living by the beach for 5 days, we just realized how much we love the beach life. HUHU. I wish we had a beach close by that’s worth driving out to. I’ve never been to Puerto Galera haha. I really want to travel the Philippines!! SOON!

    • mei says:

Having a beach nearby is really great! I also love the beach, but not as much as how Gerald loves it. Most of our beach trips are insisted by him haha

Yes, soon, visit PH where we have a lot of beaches! πŸ™‚

  • Richel V. says:

It already feels like summer, tbh. Beach getaways will be happening more and more! Haha! Didn’t realize it would only cost that much for a DIY Puerto Galera trip and only three hours of travel time! Same travel time to Batangas so hopefully I can convince the fam to go. Hehe. Do you think this could be done as a day trip?

    • mei says:

I don’t advise a day trip, since it could be tiring. Also, I haven’t seen any public CR and cottages too. You can stay for a night, accommodation is really affordable naman πŸ™‚

  • Clare says:

Wait parang nag 3d yung video ah. Lol but maybe its just me πŸ˜€

Anyways i havent been to Puerto Galera. I would love to visit there if I have the time/resources πŸ˜€ Here in Davao if we want to go on the beach its just minutes away. Its called the Samal Island, its just near the city but its already part of another province. Beaches there are very cheap, white sand and clear blue sea πŸ˜€ ah I’m already missing the place, I remember only having to prepare less than 200php for the entire trip. I’m slowly becoming stressed with work and I think I need to go to the beach too haha!

Nice yung video, pati yung bg music! Nostalgic hehe.

    • mei says:

      What? Saan nag 3D Haha

That’s why I really like the province, ilang minutes lang may beach na. Haha When I was in Bohol, lagi kami nagbebeach eh tapos ang mura lang haha

You should go for a beach trip to unwind! πŸ™‚

We also love Puerto Galera, especially Coco Beach! It’s at Muelle and the ambiance is really really nice, especially if you want to get away from noise and release. Yup, travelling can take away all my stress because it diverts all my worries from the office. πŸ™‚ I am jealous of your quick trip! We used to do that, and maybe, I can do that one time this summer! πŸ˜€

    • mei says:

Next time, try namin sa Muelle. We always think na that’s for diving kasi, kaya we don’t go there hahaha
Yes, since summer na, go to the beach! πŸ™‚

  • Mac says:

Your post makes me wanna give Galera a second chance. Haha! We had a really bad experience when we went there before. Our boat broke and we were stranded in the middle of the ocean for hours. It’s scary and the boat men were not trained on how to care for passengers. Walang update kung ano mangyayari sa amin or kung may bagong boat na dadating. Everybody’s feeling dizzy na dahil sa alon, may mga sumuka and I vomited twice. The beach and the night life was nice pa naman, sumablay lang talaga sa boat, nagka phobia ako. Hehe.

    Summer na! Whoooo!

    • mei says:

Aww, that was bad nga! Baka ma-trauma din ako pag ganyan. Anong shipping line yun? We’ve tried Minolo and Galerian (not sure i I remember it well) and, okay naman sila.

Yes, summer na, ang ineeet! Haha

  • Ochi says:

Wow, you video shots are so steady! The music was so relaxing!

I’ve never been to Puerto Galera, but I’ve considered it several times due to the proximity to Manila. But somehow, I always end up going to Batangas or Zambales. Haha

    • mei says:

Actually, those weren’t as steady sa original videos haha I used Youtube’s stabilize feature πŸ™‚

Malayo ang Zambales dba? Haha pero gusto ko din puntahan yun, ayaw lang ni Gerald kasi malapit sya dun hahaha

  • Kya says:

That is so awesome. πŸ˜€ Glad to hear that you had a good time and the pictures and video look great!

  • Pia says:

Made me want to go to Puerto Galera! πŸ™‚

  • Aneth says:

Been to White Beach, Puerto Galera two years ago but it was a summer so there was A LOT of people. Good thing we (my friends and I) did island-hopping to avoid being stuck in that beach and avoid the crowd. I actually have a blog post about our trip. Here: πŸ™‚

    • mei says:

The first time we went, it was on a Labor Day kaya madaming tao. Actually, what’s weird with Gerald, he prefers the crowd! Haha kaya mas nagenjoy sya nun kesa ngayon haha
I’ll read about your trip πŸ™‚

  • Dianne says:

Too bad I’ve never been to Puerto Galera. But I heard it’s super budget-friendly kaya we planned to go there several times before pero hindi natutuloy. I hope we’ll get to push it through this year, and I’m eyeing to have this done this summer! Though, he was able to visit the place with his family two years ago.

I think 2D/1N is enough for a quick breather from the city. And at least, you don’t need to take VLs if it’s a short vacay only. I just hope they can still maintain its beauty despite it being one of the most popular attractions in the Philippines.

I agree! The dog looks chilling and a little bit senti! haha! I love the photos too, looks like you came in the right time, it wasn’t even crowded just by looking at the photos.

    • mei says:

Summer na kaya go ka na sa Puerto Galera! Haha What’s good is that the beach is still beautiful, kahit na madaming tourists. Buti namemaintain nila, and they should, kasi may binabayarang environmental fee ang tourists. Haha
